The Origin of the Bimbo
The bimbo originally was looked at as someone who has nothing but their looks to offer.
The word originated from the Italian word “bambino” meaning baby or child. Later the word transformed to mean an unintelligent man. Somewhere along the line, the word changed to mean unintelligent, but attractive woman.
Bimbos are usually hyper-feminine, attractive, frivolous, and traditionally unintelligent. They have developed a skill of how to profit off of their looks and hyper-femininity.
Usually, bimbos were typically blonde, tan, and curvy. Plastic surgery and other body modifications were also very popular with the bimbo character. Women would get lip fillers, boob jobs, face-lifts, and other procedures to fit the idea of what men wanted them to look like.
Celebrities and characters like Marilyn Monroe, Karen Smith, Paris Hilton, and Elle woods were all made to seem like bimbos.

Breaking the Archetype
In movies, bimbos are usually portrayed as one-dimensional. Their only interest includes sexuality and their appearances. Stereo-typically they are seen with a breathy voice, revealing clothes, spacey thoughts, and an appearance men find extremely attractive. There is rarely a character development for bimbos because they are seen as a supporting role to help a character be seen as “not like other girls”. Bimbos are usually condemned by other women for having pretty privilege and easily catching the male gaze. This usually stems from jealousy because the other women have a harder time with both of those things and feel that they deserve what the “bimbo” gets so easily.
Marilyn Monroe's famous quote "I can be smart when it's important, but most men don't like it." is fairly controversial, but I think it expresses the growth of the bimbo. It's not that bimbos are dumb, it's the fact that the bimbo character was created by a man to represent his ideal woman, attractive but "in their place" essentially making them a trophy.

The New and Improved Bimbo
A character like Elle Woods showed the evolved version of the bimbo. She originally did what she thought her boyfriend wanted, but after she attempted to get him back, she realized her self-worth and started doing things for herself.
Paris Hilton also came out and said that the character she plays in the media is all an act. She knew that she wouldn't have gotten as far in her career if she didn't act like a dumb blonde. She is extremely smart and used the bimbo act as a marketing tactic.
The newer form of the Bimbo redefined the meaning into a more accepting, socially and politically aware archetype.
TikTok creators such as @chrissychlapecka, @fauxrich, and @parishiltonslefttitty have been working towards redefining the bimbo image and making it empowering for anyone who wants to be part of it.
Bimbos are now all-inclusive, non-judgmental, and most of all NOT DUMB. Bimbos are not for the misogynistic male gaze anymore, their looks are strictly for themselves. They are also pro body modifications, and proud of their sexuality.
